Jio, telecom arm of Reliance Industries, has handed out up to 15 per cent salary hikes to its top performers in a bid to keep a firm grip and hold on to its best talent even as its countrywide 4G operations improve at a quicker rate. Jio has increased salaries of the top performers among both junior and middle level managers by 15 per cent while highfliers among the senior executives, in the level of DGM – Deputy General Manager and above, have got a 10 per cent raise, a person having cognizance of the matter told the media.
The person added that the hikes range was consistent in all vital functions — networks/networks information technology (IT) & support, sales and marketing, projects, customer care, regulatory and HR. This clearly means that the count of top performers is uniformly distributed across all the core functions.
Annual Increments announced by Jio:
Reliance Jio announced its annual increments, ranging from 7 per cent to 15 per cent for ‘junior and middle level employees’ and 5 per cent to 10 per cent for ‘seniors’. The announcements took place much later as compared to last fiscal when it handed out the salary increases in April-May. But, the numbers seem to have made up for the delay. Leading Human Resource(HR) consultants said that Jio’s hikes are a bit better than the average annual increments in the telecommunication sector that were typically in the 7-12 per cent range in this fiscal. However, they maintained that Reliance Jio’s hikes are unlikely to stem abrasion across levels. A spokesperson of Reliance Jio Infocomm said that the company was an industry leader in compensation and other HR practices.
In the latest spectrum auction, Jio acquired the rights to utilize the spectrum of 269.2 MHz across 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands worth Rs.13,673 cr across all 22 service areas.
High-Profile Exits from Jio:
Jio, which finally launched its 4G services last month, has recently seen some high-profile exits. Last month, Pradeep Shrivastava stepped down as its CMO – Chief Marketing Officer after a stretch of merely over a year.
Before that, Soren L Hansen – chief cloud architect, Hari Charan Rao – assistant vice president (data science and analytics of cloud engineering), Maya R Nair – assistant vice president (security operations) and public Wi-Fi business head – Pawan S Yadav had left the firm in quick succession.
