NTPC Group looks to top 50GW installed capacity by Mar

The State-owned NTPC Group is all set to cross the milestone of over 50,000 Mega Watts installed power generation capacity by the time of March-end of 2017 with expected addition of over 4,630 Mega Watts.

According to a senior power ministry official the NTPC Group, including its joint ventures along with other subsidiaries, will have over 50,000 Mega Watts of installed power generation capacity by the end of this fiscal. He further added that even if there is some slippage in capacity addition, the state-owned Group as a whole will cross the milestone of 50,000 MW by March-end 2017. The NTPC Group currently has an installed power generation capacity of 47,228 MW, which includes 800 MW of hydro as well as 360 MW of solar energy.

The group is expected to commission 550 Mega Watts of solar power project at Mandsaur, Ananthapuram along with Badhla. Besides, thermal power generation capacities at Kudgi (1600 Mega Watts), Bogaigaon (250 Mega Watts), Mauda (660 Mega Watts), Solapur (660 Mega Watts), Nabinagar (250 Mega Watts JV) and Meja (660 Mega Watts JV) are in line for commissioning by March-end next year. Various projects with an aggregate capacity of around 24,000 Mega Watts are under implementation at 23 locations across the country.

This includes 4,050 Mega Watts being undertaken by joint ventures and subsidiary companies. Out of the total capacity under implementation, 1,329 Mega Watts is based on diversified sources of renewable energy. The company is quickly moving towards its ambition of achieving a solar portfolio of 10 Giga Watts out of the 100 Giga Watts target of the government by 2022. Over 1,700 Mega Watts renewable energy projects of the company are under execution.

Currently NTPC share price is currently trading at Rs 150.60, up by 0.74 per cent. The share price opened at Rs 149.85 from a previous closing of Rs 149.50.
