3M India, maker of more than 8,000 products in industrial, health care, safety and graphics, consumer and energy and others, is now eyeing a foray in the Indian defence sector.The firm claims that it has wide experience in this sector globally, which it can extend to the Indian subcontinent as well. Meanwhile, 3M India shares price shot up by more than 8 per cent on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) today after the news.
Senior vice president and chief technology officer of 3M Research and Development - Ashish Khanpur, stated that Defense was a market for them in India. They could make products for soldiers from the 46 technology platforms they had. They had wide experience in the US and all these technologies could be adopted, modified for India and then they could build on it, in India for India. They had no problem in foraying into defense because of their technology strength, he added.
